Which cPanel License Should You Purchase?
Grow your business with
Control Panel (cPanel)
Cheap cPanel licenses with matchless features in just
Web Hosting Manager or WHM cPanel license is an online web hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools to simplify the process of hosting a website. There are two types of cPanel licenses, cPanel VPS license, and cPanel dedicated license. You should purchase a cPanel license specific to your needs.
cPanel Dedicated License
It is important to note that you will need to ensure you have purchased the appropriate cPanel dedicated license for the server you are using. The cPanel & WHM Dedicated license version is designed to be installed on a fully dedicated bare metal server in which 100% of the hardware is allocated to the operations of that machine.
During the automated cPanel & WHM installation process, the installation will automatically detect whether you are operating within a dedicated or virtual environment and will install the necessary components appropriately. I would like to point out that if you try to activate a VPS license on a dedicated server the software will be disabled. You will not have access to the software until you purchase a Dedicated license.
cPanel VPS License
If you are new to web hosting and require a cPanel license VPS then you should know everything about cPanel licensing you most likely will start off with a VPS or Cloud server since they are more cost-effective than a fully dedicated server. If you are using Amazon AWS, Virtuozzo, VMware, or KVM, just to name a few, you will want to purchase a cPanel & WHM VPS license.
During installation, cPanel & WHM VPS optimizes the initial configuration to make the best use of memory and processors in a virtualized environment.
Cloud Linus OX
A cPanel license supports the following Linux operating systems:
- Amazon Linux
Of the above systems, most companies offer CloudLinux in the cPanel Store as two different cPanel license packages such as:
- CloudLinux for cPanel Servers
- CloudLinux for Non-cPanel Servers
The CloudLinux for cPanel Servers must be installed on a server that is using cPanel & WHM. That being said if you do not already have a cPanel license & WHM, you will be required to make an additional purchase for a cPanel & WHM license.
The CloudLinux for Non-cPanel Servers is offered to customers who are using a third-party control panel that is not cPanel & WHM.
If you’re running a dedicated server, you should opt for a cPanel license that’s specifically designed for dedicated environments.
Virtual Private Server (VPS):
If you’re on a VPS, then the VPS-specific cPanel license will be more appropriate and usually more cost-effective.
Number of Accounts:
As of the last update in my training data (January 2022), cPanel had introduced account-based pricing. This means you’ll be billed based on the number of cPanel accounts you have on your server. Estimating the number of accounts you’ll host can help you decide which tier to select.
Features & Add-ons:
Do you require any specific features or add-ons? Sometimes, there are bundled packages or tiered licenses that include additional features. It’s essential to understand what you need to ensure you don’t overpay for features you won’t utilize.
Set a budget and try to find the best license that fits within it. Remember, the cheapest option isn’t always the best in terms of value. Weigh the cost against the features and support provided.
Provider’s Reputation & Support:
Not all cPanel licenses are sold directly by cPanel, Inc. Many hosting providers resell cPanel licenses. When purchasing through a reseller or hosting provider, consider the reputation of the company and the quality of its customer support.
License Flexibility & Scalability:
It’s beneficial to opt for a license that can be upgraded or downgraded easily. As your hosting needs evolve, you want to ensure that your cPanel license can adjust accordingly.
Some providers offer bundled services with cPanel licenses, such as free SSL certificates, additional security tools, or monitoring services. Depending on your needs, these bundles might offer better value than a standalone license.
Duration of License:
Are you looking for a monthly license, yearly, or another duration? Sometimes, longer commitments can come with discounts, but be sure you’re comfortable with the term.
Updates & Upgrades:
Ensure that the license you purchase will receive regular updates and security patches. This is crucial for maintaining a secure and stable hosting environment. In conclusion, the ideal cPanel license will depend on your specific hosting environment, budget, and requirements. Always make sure to do thorough research and, if possible, consult with the provider or experts in the field before making a final decision.
