ALSA Pakistan started with a vision of Dr Tahir Yunus to improve healthcare delivery in his home country. After completing his graduation from the King Edward Medical University Lahore in 2000, he moved to the United States of America to complete his training in general surgery at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. He achieved the American board of Surgery certification in the year 2008, and then proceeded to the University of California San Francisco to complete advanced fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic, bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery with the pioneer of Laparoscopic bariatric surgery, Dr. Kelvin Higa. He further pursued his understanding of obesity by completing the American board of obesity medicine certification. He moved to Jeddah- Saudi Arabia where he was the chairman of surgery at the International Medical Center hospital and practised as a consultant surgeon performing advance laparoscopic surgery for 10 years. In the year 2020, he moved back to Lahore-Pakistan to provide his advanced clinical services in his home country.
